Sarah Charles is a young soprano from Paris. A member of the Académie de l’Opéra Royal de Versailles, she has worked with conductors such as Stéphane Fuget, Hervé Niquet, Gaëtan Jarry, Massimo Quarta, Stefan Plewniak, Henri Chalet, Marco Angioloni, and Chloé de Guillebon.

She joined the first promotion of the Académie de l’Opéra Royal de Versailles in 2023, where she recorded her debut album, Les Quatre Saisons by Boismortier, under the direction of Chloé de Guillebon, performing Le Printemps. She portrays Belinda in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas, performing at the Hall of Mirrors at the Château de Versailles and the Académie Française. She will reprise this role alongside Sonya Yoncheva at the Opéra Royal de Versailles and the Capitole de Toulouse. She also recorded a second album, singing the role of Elmira in Handel’s Sosarme, Re di Media, under the direction of Marco Angioloni.

Sarah Charles also stands out in the sacred music repertoire. She has performed Handel’s Dixit Dominus with the Maîtrise de Notre-Dame de Paris and Bach’s St. John Passion with the Orchestre d’Auvergne at the Opéra de Clermont-Ferrand and the Opéra de Vichy. In 2024, she performs Leçons de Ténèbres by Couperin with the Orchestre de l’Opéra de Versailles at the Abbaye du Thoronet. She also participates in the 800th anniversary celebrations of the Toledo Cathedral, performing Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater under the direction of Massimo Quarta with the Rachmaninov International Orchestra. She concludes 2024 with Charpentier’s Te Deum at Teatro La Fenice in Venice, conducted by Hervé Niquet. For the reopening of Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris, she will take part in two programs: one dedicated to Italian Baroque music, where she will play Filia in Carissimi’s Jephté, and another focusing on Marian music through the centuries.

Passionate about singing and theater from an early age, Sarah Charles began her training at the Conservatoire of the 18th arrondissement of Paris under Sophie Hervé while pursuing musicology studies at the University of Paris-Sorbonne. She later joined the Maîtrise de Notre-Dame de Paris, studying with Valérie Guillorit and Rosa Dominguez.

She made her stage debut as Odette in the operetta Elle est à vous by Maurice Yvain before broadening her repertoire through diverse projects. In 2022, she joined the Compagnie Les Brigands, performing as Monique in Un soir de réveillon at the Festival de Saint-Céré.

Curious and open to contemporary creation, Sarah Charles explores the intersections between artistic disciplines. Since 2019, she has collaborated with visual artist Adélaïde Fériot, participating in numerous performances blending singing and sculpture in France and Switzerland.
